MARINE CORPS BASE QUANTICO, Va. – The Team Army wheelchair basketball team showed its resilience by beating Special Operations Command, 39-22, in their fourth game at the 2015 DoD Warrior Games. Saturday’s games determine seeding for the final tournament. The competition at Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, was held on June 20.

Team Army never looked back as they jumped to leads of 14-2 and 27-12 at the half. Before the game, coaches Rod Williams and Lee Montgomery stressed that the key to winning would be good fundamentals. That advice paid off as ball movement and positioning on the court lead to a number of easy layups.

Leading scorers were U.S. Army veteran Staff Sgt. Alexander Shaw, Clarksville, Tennessee, and Sgt. Nicholas Titman, Fort Carson, Colorado, with eight points each.

Team Army has one game remaining on Saturday and needs another win to improve their seeding for the tournament finals.

The DoD Warrior Games, June 19-28, is an adaptive sports competition for wounded, ill and injured service members and veterans. Approximately 250 athletes, representing teams from the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Special Operations Command, and the British Armed Forces are competing in archery, cycling, track and field, shooting, sitting volleyball, swimming, and wheelchair basketball.
