CROATIA - Some are in the Army for just a contract, some reenlist and serve for a numbers of years and very few some adapt the Army as a lifestyle.
For Minnesota National Army Guard Spc. Lounnee Minor and her Army Reservist husband, Spc. Daniel Minor, the Army is their life. Their military service has separated the two for numerous of birthdays, anniversaries and holidays.
The geographical separation hasn’t distance the love that is apparent between the two high school sweetheart, especially during a recent trip to Croatia for the roughly five foot high spirited Laotian-American as she waits for the next opportunity to call.
“I miss him, but I know he supports me and that means the world to me,” said the starry brown-eyed woman talking about her husband, who she met in ninth grade.
Duty and honor are just a few of the things that fuels this Soldier. She takes a lot of pride in her duties and responsibilities as a carpentry/mason specialist for the 851st Vertical Engineer Company out of Camp Ripley Training Center, Minn.
“I love being able to help people,” said Specialist Minor, who recently changed her education goals and planning for a career to become a nurse.
In both capacities she has found a way to serve and has so much pride in her mission.
“I love having a skill trade, but the joy I receive from being able to help people is so filling,” explained the Big Lake, Minnesota, native.
Her unit has done numerous projects around Camp Ripley Training Center as well as humanitarian geared missions overseas.
“I want to learn, I didn’t come here to do the same old thing for annual Training,” said Spc. Minor, “I think it is awesome I get to be here, learn about their architect and culture.”
