    Allied Joint Force Command Naples

SOFIA, Bulgaria – Allied Joint Force Command Naples deputy commander and Trident Joust 15 exercise commander, Canadian Lt. Gen. D. Michael Day, visited the JFC Naples Joint Logistics Support Group deployed to Sofia, Bulgaria, June 22, 2015.

The Joint Logistics Support Group based out of JFC Naples deployed its headquarters to Bulgaria to exercise its capability in support of Exercise Trident Joust 15. This was the first time the JLSG headquarters, made up of around 100 personnel, has deployed to Bulgaria and exercised in a large scale, complex and contemporary operating environment.

"I commend the work of the Joint Logistics Support Group as they test and strengthen their ability to perform in a contingency operation," said Day. "At the same time, the JLSG could not operate without the support of the Bulgarian Ministry of Defence, who have been unstinting in their efforts to ensure that our personnel are properly resourced to execute their mission."

The goal of the JLSG HQ during Trident Joust 15 is to confirm its ability to deploy and operate as an independently functioning, remotely located, theatre level logistics command.

Trident Joust 15 supports the Readiness Action Plan which was developed during the NATO Wales Summit in September of 2014. The exercise is designed to test the ability of JFC Naples in leading the defence of an allied nation through the conduct of A NATO Article V collective defence operation and is the last in the Allied Shield series of exercises.

Twenty five NATO nations and more than 1,000 personnel based in Bulgaria, Romania and Italy, are participating in Trident Joust 15, combined with an additional 200 taking part in the Romania live fire exercise, VIFORUL 15.

The mission of the Joint Logistics Support Group is to establish logistic support for all associated maritime, air and land component commands. JFC Naples was designated the JLSG headquarters provider for the NATO Response Force in 2015.
