MISAWA, Japan - U.S. Service members stationed on Misawa Air Base and their families joined the citizens and visitors of Misawa, Japan for Misawa's 27th Annual American Day Celebration, June 21.
Those in attendance enjoyed an American-themed parade, live American rock music, and American food during the celebration.
The festivities began with the parade that featured more than 100 Harley Davidson motorcycles and Sailors, assigned to Naval Air Facility (NAF) Misawa, who carried the 50 U.S. State flags.
“It was very good and patriotic showmanship representing the 50 states of America during the parade and I appreciate all the Sailors who volunteered,” said Navy Career Counselor 1st Class Richard Effah.
After the parade ended, the good times continued to roll. American rock music played while guests purchased hot dogs, hamburgers, t-shirts and various other memorabilia from a line of vendors stretching more than two miles long.
Americans tried various Japanese foods purchased from local vendor booths as well. A few of the Japanese food vendor booths were operated by local restaurants who took the opportunity to showcase their menus.
The 35th Fighter Wing Security Forces and NAF Misawa's Security Department provided a safe environment and assisted those in attendance.
American Day was a great way for both cultures to come together and share all they had to offer.
