EVERETT, Wash. - The Chief of Naval Operations Ombudsman at Large (OAL), Martha Faller, visited with local ombudsmen at Naval Station Everett (NSE) as part of a military installation tour in an effort to connect with military spouses and their families, July 2.

Martha Faller’s one week visit included meeting with Sailors and ombudsmen from different area commands in Navy Region Northwest.

"She was very approachable and seemed sincerely interested in what I had to say," said Machinist’s Mate 1st Class Justin Thompson, USS Momsen (DDG 92). "I feel honored that she took time out of her busy schedule to meet with local Sailors.

Appointed as the Navy's ombudsman at large by Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Adm. Jonathan Greenert in Sept. 2014, Faller considers herself first and foremost a mother of two daughters. She has been a Navy wife for 31 years and has lived across the nation and around the world. Although she's taken advantage of opportunities to be part of the workforce in the communities she has lived in, her true calling is that of volunteer.

"It was wonderful being able to meet with Mrs. Faller today," said Lori Brett. "Meeting her helped provide the local command ombudsmen with more guidance so we can better serve our military community. It was great having a representative from so high up on the ombudsman chain here to let us in Italy know the CNO is paying attention, wants our input and is here to support us in our effort to support the community."

Faller's visit to NSE is part of a larger tour throughout Navy Region Northwest where she made different stops to military installations. Faller also visited Naval Air Station Whidbey Island and Naval Base Kitsap during the week.

"I feel these trips are so important because the CNO cares deeply about all the Navy families across the globe," said Faller. "By seeing the programs in place firsthand, I am better able to provide valuable feedback to the CNO back in Washington [D.C.].”

The ombudsman program is one of many programs provided by the Fleet and Family Support Programs, which enhance Sailor readiness and family preparedness, thereby contributing to mission readiness. The program is committed to promoting self-reliance and resilience, not dependency, and empowers Navy families to meet the unique challenges of the military lifestyle.
