CAROLINA, Puerto Rico - Employers from the island of Puerto Rico flew aboard a C-130 aircraft from Air National Guard Base Muñiz to Camp Santiago Joint Maneuver Training Center for the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve “Boss Lift” event on June 20, 2015.
The Boss Lift offers a day in which employers get to see first-hand what members of the National Guard experience while on military duty.
“This is a great opportunity to show employers what we do so that anytime we ask our members to come in, employers understand what we do,” said Chief Master Sgt. Hector Garcia, chief loadmaster for the 198th Airlift Squadron.
Employers from the public and private sector demonstrate interest in learning more about the challenges that service-members face during scheduled training or any call-ups for duty.
“I wanted to get an opportunity to see what my employees do when on duty,” said Warren Callwood, a manager from the Federal Aviation Administration.
Air Transportation Specialist Staff Sgt. Roberto Rivera from the 156th Airlift Wing who was recently promoted to supervisor at the local headquarters for clothing retailer TJ Maxx has benefited from the commitment his employer has for service members.
“My former boss who is coming here, always told me he supports me, even during my two deployments,” said Rivera. “Every time that I require to attend military duty he tells me ‘go ahead,’ no questions asked.”
“I think it’s fantastic!” said Melvin Laureano, district manager for TJ Maxx and Rivera’s former supervisor. “It’s nice to see what you guys do and to really understand what that service to our country means.”
The flight to CSJMTC helps ESGR to develop stronger connections with employers. As a result, airmen and soldiers are able to focus on the mission knowing that their employers understand what the National Guard does.
