FORT HOOD, Texas - Warrant officers of the 4th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), 77th Sustainment Brigade, 757th Transportation Battalion, 2/135th Aviation Battalion and 30th Armored Brigade Combat Team stepped away from their pre-mobilization tasks and joined together here on July 10 to celebrate the 97th warrant officer corps birthday.

The ceremony began with honoring the United States of America by reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and the oath taken to defend the country and its ideals.

Chief Warrant Officer 5 Richard Friedberg, command chief warrant officer, 4th ESC, hosted the ceremony.

The history of the warrant officer corps was read by Chief Warrant Officer 4 Jimmy Talbot, liaison officer, 4th ESC, outlining the many changes and growth within the warrant officer corps since inception.

“The warrant officer corps has come a long way over the past 97 years, and that today’s warrant officer is expected to be professional, approachable, and relevant in more than just their assigned technical area of responsibility,” said Friedberg. “The Army expects today’s warrant officers to not only be technically proficient, but to be an integral part of their respective units.”

The guest of honor at the ceremony was Brig. Gen. Kenneth D. Jones, commanding general, 4th ESC. Jones expressed his respect and admiration for the professionalism and technical abilities of the warrant officers in attendance and those that he has worked with throughout his career.

“Today’s warrant officers not only technically manage the Army’s numerous sustainment systems, but are charged with sharing their technical competencies with enlisted and field grade officers throughout our Army formations,” Jones said.

Friedberg charged those in attendance to carry on the professionalism and honored competencies that “our predecessors” so clearly displayed.

The ceremony closed with the oldest and the youngest warrant officers in attendance cutting the birthday cake in remembrance of the many years of experience associated with the corps' seasoned warrant officers and growth potential of the junior warrant officers.
