MANSFIELD, Ohio - Members of the 179th Airlift Wing Security Forces Squadron, Mansfield, Ohio, participated in their first Confrontation Management exercise July 11, 2015. Security Forces airmen learned the basics of crowd control to assist the state in the event of civil disturbances and in deployed environments.
Training manager, Master Sgt. Eric Stephens said, “It is important to properly use the tools tax payers provide to introduce this routine guard training program to the 179th Airlift Wing.”
The exercise presents a situation where the airmen defend themselves against aggression using the least amount of violence possible. They practice several different commands, formations and techniques to non-lethally control and subdue violent protestors.
“Another importance is teaching people who have never been involved in Confrontation Management the basics,” said Stephens.
Having these capabilities strengthens the relationship between military and civilian agencies.
Extraction team leader, Tech. Sgt. Seth Oszust said, “The program offers security forces a chance to work together to be an able force to handle state and worldwide incidents.”
In the event of any civil unrest, the Security Forces airmen will use teamwork, determination and the skills learned in this exercise to protect themselves and the public from harm.
