NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Melanie Leslie, geologist in the Civil Design Branch and Engineering Division, is the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Nashville District’s Employee of the Month for May 2015.
Leslie is recognized for her significant contributions to the Center Hill Dam Safety Rehabilitation Project.
According to her supervisor, Vanessa Bateman, Geology Section chief, Leslie has shown remarkable dedication, persistence and willingness to go above and beyond with her work performed on the remediation project.
Bateman said as the project geologist, Leslie processed a large amount information, and as the lead role in Engineering – it was her task to evaluate submittals, assess results of the construction efforts and evaluate the verification drill holes installed in Center Hill Dam Barrier Wall.
“This job was a large task, so I am honored and happy to receive the award,” said Leslie. “I appreciate the support and want to continue to do well as a geologist.”
Bateman said Leslie’s work has been particularly significant during the month of May during the final push to clear verification reviews, approve panels and with the physical completion of the barrier wall.
“She showed an unwavering willingness to do whatever it took to ensure the large volume of data provided by the contractor was sorted, viewed and appropriately analyzed,” said Bateman
Bateman stressed that Leslie worked closely and tirelessly with both Engineering and Construction staff to ensure that panel reviews and approvals were completed as quickly as possible.
“She kept a close eye on scheduling and careful analysis,” said Bateman. “During this time of extremely tight deadlines, she was invaluable to accomplishing the mission.”
Leslie joined the Nashville District team in 1992 from college after receiving her degree from New Mexico Tech, and hit the ground running, according to Bateman.
Lt. Col. John L. Hudson, former Nashville District commander, said Leslie’s initiative and commitment to the Nashville District mission make her an outstanding employee. He commanded the district during the award period that Leslie received recognition.
“Leslie is a role model employee whose ‘can do’ attitude is an example for others to emulate,” Hudson said. “Her professionalism, dedication to mission execution and superior performance is a credit to the Nashville District, the region and the Corps of Engineers.”
Leslies’ hobbies include reading, hunting for rocks, collecting antique papers and she is a native of Denver.
