MARINE CORPS AIR STATION CHERRY POINT, N.C. - Marines waited anxiously with bright smiles for the call to move into their new rooms during a ribbon cutting ceremony here, July 24.
The new facility accommodates all sergeants and below to include bona fide geographical bachelors with Fleet Readiness Center East, Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron, Combat Logistics Company 21 and Marine Transport Squadron 1.
“This new barracks supports more than 400 personnel with a mixture of single and double occupancy rooms to accommodate noncommissioned officers.” explained Master Sgt. Vincent Savage, the logistics chief with H&HS. “The facility was made to meet the commandant of the Marine Corps intent to better the quality of living for the Marines.”
Marines can look forward to a larger living space with added amenities, said Savage. Upgrades include larger and better equipped lounges, elevator access, walk in closets and mid-size refrigerators.
“Walking into the new barracks felt like stepping into a castle,” said Lance Cpl. Davidson Rodriguez, a postal clerk with H&HS. “I knew we would receive a more comfortable living space, but I was taken off-guard with how nice the new rooms are.”
The new facility shows that the Marines are being looked out for. They are being given a living space they can come home to after a long work day and unwind without having to deal with the problems of an old building, explained Rodriguez.
“I am most excited about the larger laundry room and a lounge big enough for all of us to enjoy,” said Rodriguez. “Having an updated facility tailored to our needs makes me feel appreciated as a Marine and as a part of this air station.”
According to Savage, the air station is in the process of planning and remodeling various facilities to accommodate today’s living standards and enhance the living environment for those living aboard the air station.
“Having upgraded living quarters and facilities serves as incentive for Marines to maintain these areas,” said Savage. “We look after the Marines and want them to have a space to live where they are proud and comfortable with.”
