HUNTER ARMY AIRFIELD, Ga. – Family and friends of the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Aviation Regiment gathered on Hunter Army Airfield to welcome home Soldiers from deployment on July 27.
The returning 198 Soldiers from the 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division have been deployed for the past six months.
The families and friends were anxious to see their Soldiers after waiting for an hour in the sweltering Savannah heat.
Joella Wentz and her four children could barely contain their excitement while waiting for her husband, Sgt. 1st Class Steven Wentz, battalion motor sergeant, 2nd Bn., 3rd Aviation Reg. to arrive at the hangar.
“I’m super excited and we are going to run up to him to give him hugs and kisses,” Wentz said.
Maria and Diego, two of the Wentz’s children, expressed the same sentiment about finally seeing their dad after the long separation.
“It is phenomenal watching them all come back,” said Lt. Col. Jason Roncoroni, commander, 2nd Bn., 3rd Aviation Reg. “The Soldiers look great, they are excited, the families here are excited and we are thrilled to have them back.”
The unit deployed in February to Iraq and Kuwait to support contingency operations in both countries.
