GRAFENWOEHR, Germany – The former U.S. Army in Europe provost marshal assumed leadership of the 18th Military Police Brigade during a change of command ceremony Aug. 6 at the Tower Barracks Parade Field.
Col. Arturo J. Horton accepted the reigns of USAREUR’s only MP brigade from outgoing commander, Col. Zane Jones, before a crowd that included distinguished U.S., Polish and German military personnel as well as civic leaders.
The 18th MP Brigade experienced significant transformation during Jones’ tenure as commander, which began in 2013. Jones oversaw the casings of the 95th MP Battalion, the 230th MP Company and the 630th MP Company and the 15th Engineer Battalion joined the “Ever Vigilant” ranks.
Jones also led a deployment by 18th MP Bde. headquarters to Camp Sabalu-Harrison, Afghanistan, in support of Joint Task Force 435 in 2014.
“I want you to know what a great job you have done,” said Jones during his farewell remarks. “I want you to know how great you are and how proud everyone is of you.”
Horton’s first address as commander expressed enthusiasm for the brigade’s history, and he pledged a high level of support to his Soldiers.
“I look forward to serving alongside you as a member of this historic brigade,” he said. “And I pledge to give you one hundred percent, and then some, every single day.”
