EIELSON AIR FORCE BASE, Alaska - Rank and Name: Senior Airman Alicia Lyons
Duty Title: Career development journeyman, 354th Force Support Squadron
Hometown: Cape Cod, Massachusetts
Why is serving in the Air Force important to you? Serving in the Air Force is important to me because I love helping others and being part of the mission. I’m honored to be a member of a team that is held to such a high standard in the nation. I’ve learned so much about myself since joining the Air Force; it has shaped me to become the person I am today.
What moment or accomplishment as a member of the Iceman Team are you most proud of and why? The accomplishment I’m most proud of is when I joined the Base Honor Guard. I was extremely nervous at first, but I wouldn’t change it for the world. During my time in honor guard, I had the privilege to be a part of two funerals. It was the most humbling experience knowing I left a lasting impression on the member’s family and honored their loved one’s Air Force career.
What is your favorite part of your job? There are so many aspects of my job that I love, but if I had to pick one it would be working with Airmen on a daily basis. Airmen are the most valued part of the Air Force and as a personnel specialist, I advise them on important milestones in their career. I feel my job has an important impact on their future; I like for someone to leave my office feeling like I helped them and made their visit easier. I love that I positively affect the mission on a daily basis and that my knowledge assists Airmen in reaching their long-term career goals.
Who inspires you and why? My younger sister Brianna inspires me; she challenges me to be a better person, sister and Airman. I was so honored when she told me that she wanted to follow in my footsteps and join the Air Force. Watching her graduate from Basic Military Training was bittersweet because I knew my little sister was growing up. I want to be a great role model for her and be someone she can look up to. It’s a great feeling knowing I’m serving alongside my fellow Airmen, one of whom happens to be my sister.
What's your favorite part about being in Alaska? Before receiving my assignment in tech school I never imagined myself living in Alaska. This assignment has been one of the most adventurous experiences of my life. The best part of Alaska is all of the outdoor adventures. The Force Support Squadron offered many different trips for single Airmen including white water rafting, camping, horseback riding, and glacier hiking. I will never forget these wonderful experiences.
