    3rd Combat Aviation Brigade

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The 3rd Infantry Division Band and Color Guard proudly represented and opened the game against the Rome Braves, an affiliate of the Atlanta Braves.

The 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade, 3rd ID, command sergeant major, Command Sgt. Maj. George 'Mike' Dove threw out the first pitch of the night.

“I had the honor of throwing the first pitch of the ball game,” said Dove. “I don’t know if it was a strike, but it was over the plate and didn’t hit the dirt.”

This year, the Sand Gnats' players and coaches wore special military themed jerseys with camouflaged logos and numbers, which incorporated the names of military services members.

“Sand Gnat fans were able to submit names of individual service members online,” said Jonathon Mercier, Director of Marketing and Promotions of the Savannah Sand Gnats. “At the end of the game, the jerseys will be auctioned off and the proceeds will go to local military organizations.”

Command Sgt. Maj. Dove’s daughter, Allison, was selected to start the game by yelling into a microphone “Play Ball!”

“I got asked to yell 'Play Ball' and it was really exciting,” said Dove.

The Sand Gnats beat the Braves 9-4.
