MARINE CORPS SUPPORT FACILITY BLOUNT ISLAND, Fla. – As the Marines and sailors participating in this year’s Maritime Prepositioning Force Exercise prepare to close operations for the day, they have a small luxury to look forward to - the Mobile Tactical Field Exchange brought by the Marine Corps Community Service Marines assigned to Combat Logistics Regiment 25.
The MCCS Marines have been providing MTFX operations for exercises and overseas operations since 2002. While the mobile units may not contain everything that a garrison exchange would, they still provide a variety of products, ranging from small uniform items to food, drinks, and gear items.
“It feels good to have this here,” said Lance Cpl. Cody Williamson with CLR-25. “I think it’s a great thing that the command gives us a place where we can get our mind off work from the day. It’s a boost of morale and I know a lot of my peers think so too."
This is the second year that an MTFX was provided at the MPFEX. Shipments to resupply the mobile unit come in as often as they can from Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany, Ga. The MCCS Marines do what they can to provide quality service to the Marines and sailors of CLR-25.
“The usual supply shipment comes in about once a week,” said Gunnery Sgt. Alex Diaz, the operations chief for the MTFX. “We do this because it’s a nice piece of home, a piece of the rear to get the Marines minds off what they are doing. When we bring the MTFX to field operations, you can see a difference in the mood of the Marines we serve, that’s why we do it,” Diaz said.
The mobile exchange will be with the unit throughout the duration of the exercise, providing support and boosts of morale amongst the Marines and sailors of CLR-25.
