CAMP GRAYLING JOINT MANEUVER TRAINING CENTER, Mich. — Senior Ohio National Guard leaders paid a visit Aug. 18 to Ohio Soldiers during annual training exercises.
Among the visitors were Maj. Gen. Mark E. Bartman, Ohio adjutant general, Maj. Gen. John C. Harris Jr., Ohio assistant adjutant general for Army, Command Sgt. Maj. Rodger M. Jones, state command sergeant major, and Chief Warrant Officer 5 Jay K. Stuckman, state command chief warrant officer.
During their visit, they observed a number of training exercises. Company C, 1st Battalion, 148 Infantry Regiment, 37th Infantry Brigade Combat Team conducted a platoon-sized attack on a training village objective. The distinguished visitors attended an interactive after action review on how well the platoons conducted their training, according to the standard operating procedures set by their unit leadership.
Another part of their visit was to meet with the eXportable Combat Training Capability team. The team is comprised of contracted civilians who provide realistic training scenarios and aides to units based on their specific unit needs. The provisions of realistic training scenarios, as well as equipment to the units, help reinforce accountability of the respective unit’s SOP.
“The XCTC is one of the most realistic training exercises conducted in the United States Army and will test the resolve and technical abilities of every Soldier and noncommissioned officer in this brigade,” said Command Sgt. Maj. Thomas Watson, command sergeant major of the 37th IBCT.
As part of the 37th IBCT’s annual training, the brigade was also involved in a warfighter exercise. Lt. Col. Craig W. Baker, the brigade commander, briefed the guests on the different warfighting functions his staff participated in, as part of their overall training for AT.
The senior leaders met with and talked to many Soldiers of Company C during their tour around the training cites they visited.
