KADENA AIR BASE, Japan - The Combined Federal Campaign – Overseas begins Sept. 21 and will run through Nov. 20.

The beginning of the CFC-O marks the time of year for federal employees from the five overseas combatant commands to donate to charities of their choice.

“It’s an opportunity for the military community to give back, and there are charities for anything you can think of, even in your home town,” said Master Sgt. Christopher Gerwick, CFC publicity representative for Kadena Air Base.

Within the CFC-O there are 25,000 charities to choose from, and a donation can be as little as $1. Pledges to campaigns can be made in one of three ways: electronic payroll allotments through Defense Finance and Accounting Services myPay, eGiving payments using a credit card, debit card or electronic bank transfer of traditional paper pledge cards. Last year, Kadena raised $277,000, with CFC-O raising more than $8,000,000.

“I just really want people to see the importance of their giving back to the community,” said Staff Sgt. Veronica Guerrero, a CFC committee member.

With this year’s CFC-O comes a great chance for the Department of Defense personnel to pledge themselves to a greater cause. In the form of a donation to their community, or a greater level all together through a donation to helping veterans, schools or to feeding children.

“Whether it be $1 or $500, every bit counts,” Gerwick said. “As a campaign, we aim to raise participation and beat last year’s dollar amount. Personally, I aim to at least get 100% participation within my unit.”
