MACDILL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. – The newly renovated USSOCOM Resource Center will open its doors with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and open house at building 143 next to USSOCOM headquarters, Oct. 5, at 11:30 a.m.
The center will provide badge-free access for Special Operations Forces and their families, offering programs and services that promote a self-reliant, resilient command.
The center’s mission is to provide an environment that encourages communication, education, support, and fun.
The inception of a site where families could gather for activities, programs, and various other services began more than a year ago with USSOCOM commander, Army Gen. Joseph L. Votel, and his wife, Michele. Meeting with Teresa Torelli, the director of the Force and Family Readiness Program for the command, and USSOCOM Deputy Chief of Staff, James Boisselle, the group began the planning and set the wheels in motion.
“The eclectic environment [in the center], will offer both formal and informal activities, programs, and services that are sure to appeal to members of all ages and interests,” said Torelli.
“We also have a child’s room where families can watch TV and play games; we have iPads and Wi-Fi,” she added.
Various seminars, briefings, and events will be held every month. For more information, the Resource Center calendar can be found on the Force and Family Readiness portal page at: http://www.socom.mil/ffrp/Lists/FFRPCalendar/calendar.aspx
