CAMP BONDSTEEL, Kosovo – More than 20 multinational soldiers representing chaplains, chaplain assistants and translators from eight countries came together for a Sept. 22, meeting at Camp Bondsteel, Kosovo, to coordinate religious support for soldiers serving with NATO’s Kosovo Force mission.
The group was led by Italian chaplain Don Flavio Riva, the senior KFOR chaplain. Capt. Michael Creagan, the Multinational Battle Group-East chaplain, and Sgt. Derek McKinney, the chaplain’s assistance for MNBG-E’s Forward Command Post, hosted the group.
Creagan is a Minnesota Army National Guard soldier currently deployed with the North Carolina National Guard’s 30th Armored Brigade Combat Team. McKinney, a native North Carolina National Guard Soldier, is assigned to the 30th ABCT’s 1st Combined Arms Battalion, 252nd Armor Regiment.
“Working in an international environment can present challenges due to language,” Creagan said. “I am impressed with the great sense of camaraderie and patience among the religious support teams. “
The day included a celebration of mass and prayer, a meeting to coordinate religious services, a briefing on the history of Armenia on the occasion of the nation’s independence anniversary, and review of religious sites in Kosovo.
“We were able to work together using a variety of languages,” Creagan said. “Hopefully, our efforts to provide for the religious support of our Soldiers will positively Impact the overall mission in Kosovo.”
