BELTON, Texas - Belton High School honored Fort Hood leaders before the school’s football game against Shoemaker High School, Sept. 25.
Those honored included Col. Todd Fox, Fort Hood Garrison commander and Lt. Col. Robert Jenkins and Command Sgt. Maj. Antonio Valentin, command team of Steel Squadron, 3d Cavalry Regiment.
During the ceremony, Steel Squadron was recognized as Belton High School’s military sponsor.
Jenkins, the squadron’s commander, said he was proud of what the event represented.
“What an impressive ceremony,” he said. “An event like this helps strengthen the bond between Steel Squadron, Fort Hood, and the Belton community.”
All three veterans addressed BHS’s football team before the game. They also participated in the pregame coin toss.
“We stressed the importance of leadership and teamwork,” said Valentin, the squadron’s senior enlisted advisor. “Both characteristics will lead to success, whether it be in the Army, or on the football field.”
Despite their words of encouragement, BHS came up just short against Shoemaker, losing 28-27. Belton plays Killeen High School on Oct. 9.
