MARINE CORPS BASE CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. – Major Gen. Walter L. Miller Jr. will assume command of the II Marine Expeditionary Force from Maj. Gen. William D. Beydler during a change of command ceremony aboard Camp Lejeune, Thursday, Oct. 22, at 2 p.m.
In 2012, Miller served as the commanding general, II MEF Forward, and deployed the unit to Afghanistan. Most recently, Miller served as the chief of staff, U.S. Special Operations Command in Tampa, Fla.
Beydler, who also served as the commanding general of U.S. Marine Forces Africa, focused his 15 months of command on readiness, force preservation, and community outreach initiatives like “Protect What You’ve Earned.” He is currently nominated for the rank of Lieutenant Gen. and will transition to Tampa as the commanding general of Marine Corps Forces Central Command (MARCENT).
