RALEIGH, N.C. - Children cheered and veterans waved as the North Carolina National Guard, veteran groups, a high school marching band and many exuberant characters marched down the midway at the North Carolina State Fair’s Military Appreciation Day in Raleigh, N.C., Oct. 21, 2015.
Every year at the N.C. State Fair the North Carolina National Guard maintains a large military presence as part of its role in the state and local community.
The Military Appreciation Parade kicked off in the morning featuring a variety of characters, schools, and military groups. The USO, Athens High School marching band and veteran motorcycle club chapters were among the participants.
Recruiting and Retention is manning a booth complete with a television-equipped race car and at the Grandstand race track children and adults alike can enjoy the interactive exhibits featuring a M1A1 battle tank, trucks, rocket sys, mini-C130, Bradley Fighting Vehicle and much more.
“The kids love it,” said Jon Goulding, a parent and fair visitor. “The fair is a place you can go to see all sorts of stuff and it’s really nice me to be able to introduce them to service members and things like this in a fun, relaxed way.”
