PHOENIX - The Arizona Army National Guard conducted a change of responsibility for the Arizona Training Centers, Camp Navajo during a ceremony at Papago Park Military Reservation, Oct. 18.

During the ceremony, Command Sgt. Maj. Richard Langston relinquished responsibility to Command Sgt. Maj. Christopher N. Ghormley, who earlier that day relinquished his responsibility of the 158th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade to Command Sgt. Maj. Scott M. Flint.

Lt. Col. Anita Y. Vinson, garrison commander of Camp Navajo, had high praises for Langston, referring to him as an outstanding leader and noncommissioned officer with an illustrious 33-year career.

“Though we are sad to see Sgt. Maj. Langston go, we welcome the experience and knowledge that comes with a strong career soldier that is Command Sgt. Maj. Ghormley,” Vinson said.

Ghormley, who resides in Tucson, Arizona, had previously served as the 158th MEB command sergeant major and concurrently serves as the senior enlisted adviser for the Arizona National Guard’s Joint Counter Narcotics Task Force.

“Lt. Col. Vinson, I appreciate the opportunity to serve as the training center sergeant major, and I’m excited to see what we can build together,” Ghormley said. “Our Soldiers deserve the best leaders and mentors that we can be ... that will be key to my success here and to the success of our Soldiers.”

Langston’s 25 months at Camp Navajo was his final assignment and culminated with his retirement ceremony and change of responsibility.

“I am very proud of the success that I have achieved, and the accomplishments during my 33 years of service. Not many people get to spend 33 years doing what they truly love to do,” said Langston, as he addressed the guests and Soldiers during the ceremony. “To my friends and colleagues, thank you for allowing me to serve with you. Thank you for your support and mentorship, and to the Soldiers and Airmen of the Arizona National Guard, I hope I have served you well.”

Arizona Training Centers, Camp Navajo is a premier training facility for all branches of the military and is the primary maneuver training site for Arizona. Additionally, the installation serves as a major munitions storage facility and has the distinction of being the only National Guard-run facility subject to foreign nuclear arms inspections under the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty.
