SIAULIAI, Lithuania – U.S. Soldiers from 3rd Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, 1st Armor Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, based at Fort Stewart, Georgia arrived at Siauliai International Airport on Oct. 23, 2015, to participate in Operation Atlantic Resolve.
Third Bn., 69th Ar. Regt. Soldiers will train alongside the Lithuanian Land Forces during future multi-national training exercises. For many of the unit’s Soldiers, this is their first mission overseas.
Private 1st Class Clarence Mcbride, an infantryman with Company B, 3rd Bn., 69th Ar. Regt. expressed his excitement about the upcoming training.
“This is going to be a great experience for me because I just joined and I’m already getting to go overseas. I’m really excited about working here with the Lithuanians and gaining some experience.”
Cpt. Andrew Berreth, commander of Company A, 10th Brigade Engineer Battalion, 1ABCT, 3rd ID conveyed the significance of 3rd Bn., 69th Ar. Regt.’s upcoming mission.
“It’s important that we train with our NATO allies. It ensures we can deter threats and it increases our interoperability. We will get to see what each other’s capabilities are and have a better understanding of how to react to threats, should the need occur.”
Berreth noted that training in Lithuania would be different from what his unit is used to.
“Their ranges are not the same as what we have back home. It will be interesting to train here due to the terrain and weather compared to what it’s like at Fort Stewart. It’s a lot colder over here.”
3rd Bn., 69th Ar. Regt. will train in support of Operation Atlantic Resolve over the next several weeks. Operation Atlantic Resolve provides U.S. and allied forces the opportunity to work and train together and improves their ability to operate as a combined force and that capability is essential to the security and strength of Europe.
