Airman 1st Class Chinyelu Umeokolo is from Nigeria and immigrated to the United States six years ago. “I am appreciative of the many opportunities the United States has to offer,” she said.
She said that she wanted to serve the country as a way of saying thank you. She serves as a medical technician in the 127th Medical Group.
“The best part of my job is the interaction with people, I love to help,” said Umeokolo, who is studying biology at Rutgers University and plans to attend medical school.
Umeokolo, who enjoys running to stay in shape, said that she now runs on streets far from the wildlife reserves and West African coastline where she grew up. She also likes to travel and take photographs.
“Umeokolo is a very excellent Airman,” said Master Sgt. Roberta Fiery-Repic, 127MDG's physical exam manager. "She has a lot on her plate and is doing an excellent job."

About the 127th Wing
Comprised of approximately 1,700 personnel and flying both the A-10 Thunderbolt II and the KC-135 Stratotanker, the Michigan Air National Guard's 127th Wing supports Air Mobility Command and Air Combat Command operations by providing highly-skilled Airmen to missions domestically and overseas. The 127th Wing is the host unit at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, which marks its 98th year of continuous military air operations in 2015.
