FORT BRAGG, N.C. - Soldiers from the 525th Expeditionary Military Intelligence Brigade, conducted a transformation ceremony Oct. 23, at the post’s Lightning Field, to officially recognize the 319th and 519th military intelligence battalions as E-MIBs. As part of the transformation, each battalion deactivated their respective Company C’s during the ceremony.
To the Soldiers and Family members the ceremony represented the battalions’ official change and the start of a new mission for the unit, said Col. James Walker, commander of the 525th E-MI Bde.
As the Army draws down its brigade combat teams, their reduced intelligence assets and capabilities will need to be supplemented. Walker said the reorganization is needed to better adapt to the transformation and modernization of the Army. Lt. Col. Joshua J. Fulmer, commander of the 519th E-MI Bn., said a prime objective of the transformation is the ability to provide intelligence capability that brigade commanders can use. The Soldiers from the deactivated companies in each battalion have been integrated into the Companies A and B of their respective battalions to form four smaller, more capable intelligence support packages.
Each ISP serves as a menu of options, available to the XVIII Airborne Corps commander, which is tailorable, scalable and expeditionary.
The 525th E-MI Bde. will maintain one trained and validated, deployable ISP, with the ability to surge to three ISPs on order, in support of multi-echelon missions.
The brigade was chosen a year ago to be the first military intelligence brigade in the nation to transition into the more agile and multi-disciplined intelligence force multiplier it is today. The ceremony was the culmination of a yearlong preparation.
“It’s awesome,” said Walker when asked how he felt about being the commander during this transformation. “This brigade has been ‘the first’ multiple times in different transformations throughout its history and I’m just proud to be a part of that.”
