MARINE CORPS AIR GROUND COMBAT CENTER TWENTYNINE PALMS, Calif. – Marines with 2nd Tank Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, conducted the Tank Mechanized Assault Course during Integrated Training Exercise 1-16 aboard Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms, California, Oct. 30, 2015.
“Today our mission is doing a joint breach,” said Lance Corporal Cody Miller, tank crewman with 2nd Tank Battalion. “We were the support by fire element. We posted up the breacher and we assaulted company two objective.”
The TMAC was a combined effort from multiple units, utilizing the vast capabilities of the Marine Air Ground Task Force. Marines with 2nd Tank Battalion were able to call artillery support, amphibious assault vehicles and air support to complete their objective.
ITX tests Marines’ ability to operate in a different environment than their home station of Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. They must effectively maneuver in arid, desert terrain with a different compliment of equipment.
“We have to operate with different equipment; I have more experience working on my tank back at Lejeune than I do with the ones here,” Miller said. “Learning the tanks' idiosyncrasies here will allow the other Marines to be prepared for the adversity of operating away from our comfort zone.”
“I think we’re getting some good training in and I’m definitely a lot better at what I do than I was before I came out here,” said Miller.
