CHINCHILLA, Spain – The 557 Medical Company (Area Support) medical providers found themselves amidst a literal rain of multinational Soldiers Wednesday, October 28, 2015 as 260 U.S., Belgian, and Italian paratroopers jumped into La Filipa Drop Zone in Chinchilla, Spain as part of an airborne exercise for Trident Juncture 2015, NATO’s largest exercise since 2002.
"This is the first truly integrated multinational operation I have experienced,” said Capt. Karl Kelson, physician assistant with 557th ASMC. “To be able to see a Canadian pilot, Italian DZ Safety Officer, Belgian jump master; American, Danish, and Italian medical coverage, and three nationalities jumping in; this is great."
557th ASMC collaborated with 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team in providing medical coverage during airborne operations on Wednesday along with Danish and Italian medical personnel.
"It's amazing to see this much cooperation without there seeming to be any confusion," Sgt. Marco Borrego, medic with 557th ASMC, said after completion of the jump.
557th ASMC provided role I medical support, conducted medical training, augmented medical coverage to other NATO allied partners such as the Royal Irish Guard, as well as provided drop zone medical coverage for multiple airborne operations at Trident Juncture 2015.
