BOISE, Idaho - Kevin Miller of KIDO radio in Boise broadcasts his morning talk show from the 124th Fighter Wing, Boise, Idaho on Nov. 10, 2015. Miller spoke with Wing Commander, Col. Tim Donnellan and seven other members of the Idaho Air National Guard about their experiences in the National Guard, work and life balance, the mission and future of the 124th Fighter Wing.
When Miller asked, “How beneficial is it to have a base like Gowen?” Donnellan said, “I can summarize by saying that Gowen is a crown jewel in the United States and for the USAF. We have mountainous terrain to the north and south; we have desert, and we have four seasons. We’re an all-weather Air Force and an all-weather Air National Guard. All the conditions that we might face around the world are conditions that we can train in right here in Idaho.”
Donnellan was asked, “What is it like flying the A-10?” He responded, “To quote my father, ‘every day you fly you are going to learn, you are either going to something new or re-learn something that you forgot.’ Flying the A-10 is the same way—it’s a great honor and privilege to be a fighter pilot.”
Kevin Miller is the host of KIDO’s “Kevin Miller in the Morning” show every weekday. Miller’s show originates from the 580 KIDO studios as he wakes up the Treasure Valley with his unique blend of humor, politics and conservative outlook. In 2011, when Idaho National Guard troops deployed to Iraq, Kevin was there. He encouraged the community to write more than 2,000 letters of support which he personally delivered. Broadcasting daily from Camp Victory, Baghdad, listeners got rare insight to the dangers facing Idaho soldiers.
