AL UDEID AIR BASE, Qatar - Deployed service members at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar gathered at Memorial Plaza Dec. 9 to close out the 2015 Combined Federal Campaign Overseas with a Pie-in-the-Face event.
The event allowed people to bid on the right to throw a pie in the face of a member of AUAB leadership.
Several high-ranking leaders supported the cause by being pied including Brig. Gen. Darren James, 379th Air Expeditionary Wing commander, Col. Stuart Newberry, 379th AEW vice commander and Chief Master Sgt. Thomas Good, 379th AEW command chief.
Volunteers chose the CFC sponsored organization the funds raised from their participation in the event were donated to.
The Pie-in-the-Face event raised more than $4,000 for 27 charities bringing the 379th AEW 2015 total amount raised to $89,971.78.
“It’s very important to support this cause,” said Capt. Robert Rogers, 379th AEW Host Nation Coordination Cell diplomatic clearance officer and one of the event’s organizers.
“These donations help support several different charities that can reach out and provide wonderful services to others,” Rogers added. “With every donation those who donate also display incredible selflessness.”
Capt. Richard Hart, 379th AEW section commander and the Wing’s community area project officer for the CFC-O managed a team of 160 people.
The team spent 11 weeks making contact with every service member assigned to the 379th AEW, as well as the Wing’s mission partners; more than 6,000 people. Thanks largely to their efforts the 379th AEW exceeded last year’s donations by 19 percent.
Hart said he’s thrilled with all the hard work his team put in.
“I am so pleased and grateful for all the hard work that our CFC-O team put in to make it a success,” Hart said. “The 379th AEW CFC-O team worked in conjunction with the Combined Air and Space Operations Center CFC-O team to put on four events including two 5K races.”
“I believe our combined efforts helped raise awareness and really made a difference in the success of this year's CFC-O,” Hart added.
The CFC is the only authorized fundraising effort for federal employees in their workplaces on behalf of approved charitable organizations. As of December 11 the campaign has raised nearly $7 million for charity. People can donate to the CFC online until December 31 by visiting http://cfcoverseas.org/.
