Mobilization and Deployment, DPTMS Fort Bliss

The 214th Military Police Company conducted training in their home state of Alabama for a month before proceeding to Fort Bliss, Texas, to complete premobilization training in a multitude of military police operations.

“I have a little bit of experience to bring to the table,” said Capt. Edwin F. Eiswerth, commander, 214th MP Co., referring to his Iraq deployment in 2010. “We have a good group of soldiers so I'm not expecting any issues with the mission … as long as they stay focused and are not complacent we should be good.”

Eiswerth said his intent is to fulfill the tasks and responsibilities that are assigned and keep Soldiers focused. He also wants Soldiers to productively utilize their off time whether it be education, going to the gym, or finding a hobby.

The 229th MP Co. completed similar training leading to this deployment. 1st Lt. Jennifer Rauch, commander, 229th MP Co., said the Unit completed a variety of training from Army Warrior tasks to required online training.

The unit completed three weeks of Annual training at Fort Pickett, Virginia, in August, where they conducted required pre-mobilization tasks before reporting hereto focus on MP specific.

“The last time the 229 MP Co deployed was in 2009-10 to Iraq,” Rauch said. “(Training here) was a great opportunity to re-qualify on all of our weapon systems. You guys (here) have really great ranges.”

Similar to the 214th MP Co., the 229th MP Co. leadership wants Soldiers to make the most of down time.

“I'm hoping that everybody will come back with at least a 270 on their Army Physical Fitness Test,” Rauch said. ”My other goal, is for everyone to complete all Structured Self Development Courses…and also one college course.”

Sgt. 1st Class Gilbert A. Paloma, acting first sergeant, 229th MP Co., said the unit has improved their Soldier skills after completing battle tactics and warrior task training here.

Embarking on his fourth deployment in the National Guard, in addition to three deployments in the Marine Corps, Paloma has stressed the importance of Soldiers taking care of one another.

“We got to look out for each other because when we're away from our families at home,” Paloma said. “We must look out for one another to be successful.”
