FORWARD OPERATING BASE KALSU, Iraq — Members of the north Babil tribal council held a meeting to discuss regional concerns Apr. 17 on Forward Operating Base Kalsu.
The last council meeting, held in January, was used to bring together all key leadership in the north Babil area to discuss concerns.
Leaders from the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 3rd infantry Division, Iraqi police, Iraqi army soldiers and tribal leaders discussed projects, security and transition of the Sons of Iraq program.
"With the current security situation, a window of opportunity has open," said Col. Thomas James, commander of 4th BCT, 3rd Inf. Div. "That is why this meeting and forum is important."
Two of the major concerns discussed in the meeting were security in the area and transitioning SoI members into the Iraqi security forces.
During the meeting Brig. Gen. Fadil Raddad, the IP chief for north Babil, spoke about recent security incidents. He said while some violence by criminals had occurred, security over the past four months had been stable.
After the meeting, council members held a press conference at the Kalsu dining facility to talk to Iraqi reporters.
