BAGHDAD – In front of the "Dragoons" painting of the 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regimental headquarters at Camp Victory, Iraq, something significant happened.

On Sunday March 30, the Commander of the 2nd Air Support Operations Squadron, Air Force Lt. Col. Lee H. Marsh, Jr., who hails from Atlanta, stood at attention for the last time as the 2nd ASOS commander.

Marsh, who has been with the 2nd ASOS for just under four years, is now on his way to attend the Advanced Operational Arts Studies Fellowship course at Fort Leavenworth, Kan.

The 2nd ASOS is attached to 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, and is the link between the Soldiers on the ground and the fighter pilot in the air. This is a significant link, it is the difference between getting the air support for Soldiers on the ground or not.

Marsh will be succeeded in command by Lt. Col. Steven Neuser, whose family resides in Fort Myers, Fla. Neuser has been the director of operations for 2nd ASOS for just under one year.

Marsh, who has done everything from operations for B-52 Bombers to training officers and enlisted on the Air Forces newest weapons and their capabilities, is now going back to school to further his already vast knowledge of military operations.

Neuser's record speaks for itself. There is no doubt that he has the qualification to be the next commander.

Neuser started out in the military as a U.S Army Soldier he enlisted on June 6, 1983. He decided after a while as an enlisted Soldier that he wanted to fly.

Less than a year later, he went to the Army's Warrant Officer Rotary Wing Aviator's Course in February 1984, where he not only graduated, but graduated as distinguished honor graduate.

Neuser flew AH-1 "Cobra" as an Army aviator and OH-58C "Kiowa" as an air mission commander.

Neuser again wanted a change, so he went to USAF Officer Training School and graduated in March 1990, That is when he started his career as a USAF officer and fighter pilot.

On Sunday, Neuser took command of 2nd ASOS from Marsh, as the ceremony started the two commanders stood at attention and saluted the flag as the National Anthem played. After changing the hands of the guidon, Marsh spoke to all in attendance, thanking them for their support.

"Commanding the 2nd Air Support Operations Squadron has been the most rewarding time in my 20 years of service - Most definitely the high point of my career,"
the outgoing commander stated to all in attendance.

Neuser then addressed the Soldiers and Airmen in attendance, saying that this was a great opportunity and he is looking forward to commanding the great organization.

"I look forward to continuing the outstanding relationship and Air Force support between the 2nd Air Support Operations Squadron and the 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment. I am humbled by the opportunity to command such talented Airmen," The new commander of the 2nd ASOS said.
