ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. – U.S. Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Soldiers from the 192nd Ordnance Battalion (EOD) hosted the first ever Material Exploitation Seminar at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Jan. 26 – 28.
The seminar was led by an interdisciplinary team of scientists from the Defense Forensic Science Center in Atlanta, tied in EOD support to targeting and intelligence operations and specifically trains to ART 2.4, “Provide Intelligence Support to Targeting and Information Superiority.”
The course, which included a day on the range to tie in disruption and post blast collection best practices, culminated with a targeting brief from an XVIII Airborne Corps targeting officer. Students also learned a variety of best practices for collection of captured enemy material.
The attendees were comprised of leaders in the 192nd, and also attended by EOD techs and intelligence analysts from the 63rd Ordnance Battalion (EOD) and intelligence analysts from the 52nd Ordnance Group (EOD).
"The Material Exploitation Seminar students learned the importance of captured enemy material exploitation first hand. The joint nature of the training enhanced the understanding between EOD techs, forensic scientists and intelligence personnel,” said Jacob Jantsch, commander, Headquarters and Headquarters Company 192d Ordnance Battalion (EOD). “The expertise shared in the seminar will enhance device disruption, forensic exploitation, intelligence production and the overall targeting process."
