    28th Infantry Division

HARRISBURG, Pa. - Officers of the 28th Infantry Division headquarters can take advantage of new opportunity to build fellowship and cohesion with fellow officers and members of their command group.

Lt. Col. Gary Polsinelli, 28th ID red team chief, came up with the idea for the new monthly luncheon event as he began serving as the division’s new president of the division's officers' mess.

“Traditionally, even before the U.S. Army was formed, the unit mess was intended to be a social hub for leaders,” Polsinelli said.

For the first event, interested officers signed up to enjoy a period of lunch and socializing with 28th Infantry Division commanding general Maj. Gen. John Gronski. Future events will feature other division leaders. Up to 14 officers can attend each event with priority for the next event being given to those who have not had opportunity to attend.

“We had no problem filling all the seats for the month,” Polsinelli said of the event held during the February drill period.

There is no agenda to the luncheon, and Polsinelli said that “in the tradition of a good mess,” there is no talking shop. War stories, leadership and general military lore are appropriate subjects.

Polsinelli says there is no additional expense incurred to the unit for the event. The only additional work is transporting food from the adjacent dining hall.
