FORT BRAGG, N.C. - As the dust settled in the 'Lightning' Brigade footprint after several hours of physically and mentally exhausting events, the winning team of the winter 'Lightning Games' was recognized in a formation Feb. 11 at the 'Lightning' softball field complex here.
Soldiers representing Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 319th Military Intelligence Battalion were named 'Lightning Games' winner.
"I really enjoyed all of the events especially the pull-ups because every person on the team pushed hard to finish strong," said Spc. Godfred Tawiah, HHC, 319th MI Bn. Chaplain's assistant. "It was a privilege to be part of the winning team because we weren't just strong, but were also dedicated and motivated to win it all."
HHC, 525th MI Brigade finished second as Co. A, 519th MI Bn., Co. A, 319th MI Bn., Co. B, 519th MI Bn. and HHC, 519th MI Bn. respectively rounded out placing in the competition.
The 'Lightning Games' consisted of Soldier tasks such as using a radio, first aid and weapons breakdown as well as physical fitness tasks such as push-ups, pull-ups and ruck marching.
"The most challenging part of the competition for me was running all over the course with my rucksack," said Spc. Chris Young, a signal support systems specialist with Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 525th Military Intelligence Brigade. "I learned that I can keep pushing myself further when I'm tired, there is always that extra strength you have when trying to win a competition."
The 'Lightning Games' are a series of competitions where teams (Companies) accumulate points with every victory and the Commander's Cup Champion will be crowned at the brigade's 'Organization Day' later this year.
