BELLEVUE, Wash. – Defense Contract Management Agency personnel are stationed across the country in a variety of buildings, each with unique security challenges. “We have personnel in every building type and location ranging from federal buildings, courthouses, contractor sites, commercial buildings, and military installations and facilities requiring varying levels of security,” said Hugh Wiley, DCMA Security director.
DCMA works closely with local, state and federal law enforcement and security forces to maintain the appropriate risk-based security posture for operations and the workforce. One agency DCMA relies on for support at offices in federal buildings and commercial leased spaces is the Federal Protective Service, a component of the Department of Homeland Security.
DCMA Seattle recently teamed with the local FPS to conduct a random antiterrorism measures exercise. Several FPS officers brought a K-9 unit and inspected offices for explosive materials while DCMA Seattle security team members and FPS officers conducted bag and common access card inspections at the office entrance.
The exercise was a resounding success according to Air Force Maj. Geoffrey Levine, DCMA Seattle commander. “It was great to see all of the folks from FPS, the DCMA Security Center and DCMA Seattle (contract management office) working together to ensure a safe work environment. Maintaining a vigilant security posture is imperative for effective force protection.
“The FPS participation demonstrated the close bonds between DCMA offices and its law enforcement and security partners,” continued Levine. “It is through this kind of vigilance that all of us can do the most to prevent terrorist attacks in our communities.”
The RAM program used at DCMA Seattle, and across the agency, enhances the security posture of an office or facility as well as raises security awareness and vigilance throughout the workforce. “The collaborative efforts strengthen protection and response capabilities for local first responders, such as the FPS, and encourages everyone involved to remember; ‘If you see something, say something,’” said Wiley.
