Marines with Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron aboard Marine Corps Air Station New River traveled aboard a C-12 to Scott Air Force Base, Illinois, to receive recognition as the 2014 Joint Operations Support Airlift Squadron of the Year Feb. 5, 2015.
H&HS has earned the award for seven consecutive years, but this was the first time they visited the Joint Operational Support Airlift Center. During their visit to JOSAC, they met those they work with on a daily basis.
The Joint Operational Support Airlift Center and squadrons coordinate and schedule missions to transport VIPs, service members and cargo across the continental U.S. effectively and efficiently.
"It was nice to meet the people we communicate with every day," said Cpl. Christopher Spivey, operations clerk with H&HS. "It was also good to see our hard work pay off."
Military air support not only transports general officers and other VIPs, but also service members who are traveling using government funds.
"Most Marines can request travel through military air support," said Lt. Col. Lesley Chiu, H&HS commanding officer and Wallet Creek, California, native. "It’s more cost efficient and it saves time."
The squadron was chosen over other Marine Corps units which conduct similar missions to win the award. Another category H&HS excelled in was flexibility, professionalism and cooperation.
"It was a great honor to receive the award," said Chiu. "We support an elusive mission, and we were recognized for our performance compared to other Marine Corps squadrons."
