Members of the Kaiserslautern Military Community came together to cheer on their respective teams and watch the 2016 Super Bowl Feb. 7, at J. R. Rockers on Ramstein Air Base.
For some of the service members and their families, the 86th Force Support Squadron hosted Super Bowl L Madness party was the only way to watch the game between the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers.
“We are supporting the troops,” said Doug Hanson, 86th Force Support Squadron Ramstein Enlisted Club operations manager. “We are giving them somewhere they can come out, have a safe evening and enjoy the game and watch all the Super Bowl commercials.”
The event was open to service members from all branches, Department of Defense civilians and family members. Those in attendance at the party were offered several chances to take home prizes through various pre-game events.
The event included a wing-eating contest, a cherry-finding contest, a matchbox race, raffle drawing and a squares board.
For those not participating in the pre-game festivities, J.R. Rockers also had wings and drink specials all night as well as an opportunity for patrons to become Club members to take advantage of not only the raffle drawing but also other opportunities granted by being a member.
“There were a few other places that are showing [the game], and [the American Forces Network] was going to be showing it,” said Staff Sgt. Hailee Glenn, 86th Medical Operations Squadron medical technician. “This is the best place that sells wings for 35 cents, so here we are.”
Approximately 300 people were in attendance to watch the Broncos’ 24-10 win over the Panthers.
