AL UDEID AIR BASE, Qatar - New facilities won’t stay new forever, but with proper treatment, along with preventive maintenance, a building’s “life” can stretch beyond the expiration date.
The 379th Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron’s Blatchford-Preston Complex maintenance team ensures dorms, dining and morale facilities are maintained by performing repairs and preventive maintenance at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar.
The BPC maintenance team consists of six members: two plumbers, two electricians and two structural specialists. They are dispatched as three, two-person teams; the three teams were formed, based on their specialty, in order to accomplish repairs expediently.
The BPC maintenance team completes work orders for the dorms, the BPC mall, gym, Kasbah and Zink clubs, dining facilities and U.S. Central Command facilities. They also assist the Cadillac team, if time permits.
“We maintain plumbing on the BPC side,” said Senior Airman Brent Larson, 379 ECES plumber. “We repair and maintain toilets and showers in the BPC, U.S. Central Command dorms and the Coalition Compound dorms with indoor plumbing.”
Senior Airman Joshua Estrada, 379 ECES structural specialist, makes repairs in the BPC dorms. He is a member of the two-man structure team that responds to structure-related issues inside the dorms.
“We repair toilets, bathtubs and ceiling and floor tiles after they’ve been damaged because of leaks,” said Estrada.
The team averages 10 work orders per day and the facility maintenance team often extends their work hours to complete jobs. With all the work before them, their attitudes remain positive.
“I don't linger on negative thoughts,” said Senior Airman Damien Missel, 379 ECES electrician. “I feel like your mood is a mindset; if you think positive things, your mindset will be inherently positive.”
