    158th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade

BUCKEYE, Ariz. – One military asset that is generally overlooked when conducting military operations is the 365th Signal Company. They are a group of Soldiers who specialize in providing a secure method of communication between units within the 158th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade and outside elements.

“The importance of our job throughout the brigade is to not only have communication, but to support every company in our brigade, every battalion and help get communication from point A to point B,” said Pfc. Brett Woods, an information technology specialist in the 365th Signal Company.

In order to continue being a dependable asset, the unit continuously trains to a standard that they would adhere to if they were in a deployed environment.

Over the course of 24 hours, the 365th traveled to an Arizona National Guard armory located in Buckeye, Arizona to exercise their tactical assemblages. This training allows them to sharpen their skills and prepare for any exercise within the brigade or future deployments.

“When we are deployed, we are connected with our regional hub node, and we are able to provide voice and data for our customers,” said 2nd Lt. Timothy Stephens, a platoon leader with the 365th Signal Company.

Stephens emphasized that the unit’s most critical role is to be on the battlefield providing digital and voice communications for the ground force commander.

They provide this communication in remote locations where it’s not established or industrialized. This allows the unit to have the ability to deploy essentially anywhere in the world and provide services to the ground force commander to complete the mission.

A large contribution to mission success is cross training, which has become an important part of the 365th focus.

“We have Soldiers that are subject matter experts in satellite communications, and we have Soldiers that are experts on the networking side,” Stephens said. “We like to take these opportunities when we come out to training exercises like this and cross train. It’s great continuity and knowledge transfer; it definitely fills the gaps when we have a lack of personnel at the time.”

This allows every person in this unit to become familiar with what each of the other 25 series jobs specializes in.

“The quality of my training is very extensive,” Woods said. “I’ve had a great experience working with many different MOSs. One in particular would be the 25U, the signal systems support specialists.”

The entire company works as a team in order to effectively establish communication for those depending on them.
