BAGRAM AIR FIELD, Afghanistan – Security professionals from across Bagram gathered in full force on March 11, 2016, at the Provost Marshal’s Office to honor the memory of Staff Sgt. Brian "Cody" Prosser and witness the rededication of Prosser’s memorial.
More than 40 personnel from the U.S. Air Force Office of Special Investigations, Criminal Investigation Division, USAF Security Forces, U.S. Army and Romanian Military Police, were all in attendance to witness the unveiling.
“It was a great honor for them all to be a part of this today. They are the ones that ‘hold the line’ with us; day-in and day-out, on-or-off the airfield, so we couldn’t have asked for a better turn-out,” said First Sgt. Rafael Aguilera, Bagram Airfield Provost Sergeant. “Staff Sgt. Brian ‘Cody’ Prosser paid the ultimate sacrifice in an effort to improve the country of Afghanistan. The previous memorial was a good one at the time it was created, back in 2002, but technology, like Afghanistan, has come a long way since 2002. We felt that Staff Sgt. Prosser deserved something better than a substandard quality picture.”
Before the unveiling, Capt. Robert Bailey, U.S. Forces-Afghanistan chaplain, provided the invocation, while Aguilera offered a heartfelt eulogy and anecdotes about the fallen hero.
“Staff Sgt. Prosser's accomplishments are continuous throughout this war. He was a key member in Afghanistan's recent past and their future for years to come that the majority of Afghans will never know,” Aguilera said.
Although Staff Sgt. Travis Miller, 137th Military Police Detachment day shift supervisor, and Sgt. Steven Graeser, 354th Military Police Detachment night desk sergeant, initially came up with the concept for the new memorial and were the ones to unveil it during the ceremony, they mentioned it was a collaborative effort between the 137th MP Det., 354th MP Det. and the Romanian MP Det. that ultimately got the memorial created.
“The first memorial that was dedicated to Staff Sgt. Brian ‘Cody’ Prosser was a nice memento, but it only had a low-resolution picture of him and a biography printed on a piece of paper,” said Miller. “We wanted it to stand out and represent a lot more to the building for people to see. History is a big part of the military and Staff Sgt. Prosser made history here.”
The new memorial will be featured in the PMO lobby area in order for all who visit to view.
