Col. Jefferson O’Donnell, the vice wing commander for the previous nine months, assumed command from Col. David Iverson, while Lt. Gen. General Chris Noland, 12th Air Force (Air Forces Southern) commander, officiated the ceremony.
“What a great day to be a Gunfighter in the state of Idaho,” O’Donnell said. “Susanne and I are humbled by the opportunity to continue serving with you. General Noland, I thank you and General Carlisle and
Air Force leadership for having the confidence in me to serve as Gunfighter One.”
Iverson was awarded the Legion of Merit for his leadership during the 44 million dollar runway among other feats. He will be moving on to the Pentagon to serve as the Senior Military Advisor for the Under Secretary of the Air Force.
O’Donnell will be responsible of a wing comprised of 4,200 military and civilian members, including a Republic of Singapore squadron.
“What I always remember is that I’m just the commander,” O’Donnell said. “I’m serving the Gunfighters and they are the ones who are executing the mission and so I’m humbled and excited for the opportunity to serve the Gunfighters.”
