ANDRAVIDA AIR BASE, Greece -
Airmen and aircraft from the 48th Fighter Wing, Royal Air Force Lakenheath, England, are participating in INIOHOS 16 here, through April 15, 2016.
The Hellenic air force-hosted exercise enhances interoperability, capabilities, and skills with twelve F-15E Strike Eagles from the 492nd Fighter Squadron, approximately 260 Airmen from the 48th Fighter Wing and includes the Israeli air force.
Lt. Col. Matthew Hund, 492nd Fighter Squadron commander, said INIOHOS provides an opportunity for the U.S., Greece and Israel, as partners, to hone their operational skills and continues to promote peace and stability throughout their respective regions.
"We get to look at specific training that meets our needs for the United States, but we also get to train with our allies," Hund said. “Any time we have the chance to get better, to learn from and teach our allies, is a great opportunity."
Col. Robert Novotny, 48th Fighter Wing commander, said exercises such as INIOHOS prepare the Liberty Wing to stay "forward, ready, now."
"Any time we can deploy to a new place and put to task the things we work on back home, allows us to validate whether our tactics, our training and our procedures are actually going to pay dividends when we go on the road and interoperate with our partners."
The Hellenic Air Force organized the first INIOHOS exercise in 1988, and this is the first year the 492nd Fighter Squadron has participated.
