    TULLAHOMA, Tenn. - Tennessee Army National Guard Colonel Milton Thompson today took command of the 30th Troop Command, headquartered at the Tullahoma Readiness Center. Thompson assumed the leadership role from Colonel John Krenson, who served as the 30th's commander since March, 2014. Brigadier General Tommy Baker, Assistant Adjutant General, Army, officiated over the change of command ceremony.
    “I’m blessed and truly honored at the opportunity to lead and serve with this vast talent of men and women... these Soldiers... of the 30th Troop Command” Thompson stated. “I look forward to working with the local community leaders and the different community agencies as we demonstrate our combined expertise.”
    Thompson, a Nashville native, is the Deputy Director of Human Resources Office at Joint Forces Headquarters, Tennessee National Guard. He enlisted in the Tennessee Army National Guard as a Draftsman and Surveyor in the 194th Engineer Brigade in 1985 and received his commission from Vanderbilt University in 1987.
    Thompson deployed and served as the 194th Engineer Brigade’s Adjutant (G-1) during Operation Iraqi Freedom. He has also served in numerous overseas tours to include Operation “Bright Star” in Egypt and Operation “Key Resolve” in Korea.
    Before assuming command of the 30th Troop Command, Thompson was the battalion commander the 301st Troop Command and commanded the 913th CSE Engineer Company as well serving in as various staff positions throughout his career. His awards include the Bronze Star, the Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Army Achievement Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters and numerous other awards.
    Thompson is a graduate of the U.S. Army War College, Command and General Staff College, Combined Arms and Services Staff School, Adjutant General’s Transition course, Engineer Officer Advance course and the Chemical Officer Basic Course. His civilian education includes a Master’s degree from the Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Tennessee.
    Colonel John Krenson, the departing commander, will retire at the end of May after thirty years of distinguished service. “It’s been a great privilege to serve as the commander of the 30th, especially as we have had soldiers serving in combat zones over the last two years. These men and women are absolutely extraordinary.”
    The 30th Troop Command leads many Soldiers in various units spread out across the state of Tennessee, to include the Tennessee Army National Guard Medical Detachment in Smyrna, the 230th Digital Liaison Detachment in Smyrna, the 1-181st Field Artillery Battalion in Chattanooga, the 1-230th Assault Helicopter Battalion in Nashville, and the 107th Airfield Operations Battalion in Tullahoma.
