Like many times before, since the start of his career in 1987, Command Sgt. Maj. Harold L. Lincoln made a stop at the 108th Air Defense Artillery Brigade and felt right at home.
“I’m always a Skystriker,” Lincoln said Friday, April 15, 2016.
Sgt. Maj. Lincoln, who previously served as the Regimental Command Sergeant Major, United States Army Air Defense Artillery School at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, transitioned to a new position at the XVIII Airborne Corps, Fort Bragg, N.C., just a few miles away from the Spartan Brigade he once served in.
Lincoln was given the Legion of Merit during an award ceremony, in which Brig. Gen. Christopher L. Spillman, 40th Commandant of the U.S. Army Air Defense Artillery School, presented.
Spillman and Lincoln worked hand-in-hand at the school house, where Lincoln was recognized for inspiring Soldiers, leaders, and air defense artillery formations across the force.
“I really hated to see Sgt. Maj. Lincoln go,” Spillman said.
Spillman, much like Lincoln, is no stranger to the Spartan Brigade or working with each other.
“I’ve served with Command Sgt. Maj. Lincoln a lot over the years,” Spillman said. “And I wanted to make sure we did this right.”
Spillman and Lincoln served together as the 108th command team from 2009 until 2011. They also served together earlier in their careers when Spillman served as a battalion commander and Lincoln, a first sergeant.
As Lincoln transitions to his new position at Corps, he is continually remembered for the legendary impact he left behind on the Fires community, Air Defense Artillery, and Spartan Brigade.
