    Hurlburt welcomes new in-service recruiter

    HURLBURT FIELD, FLORIDA, UNITED STATES

    12.04.2015

Story by Senior Airman Meagan Schutter

    1st Special Operations Wing

Recently, Master Sgt. Deserie Jackson, an in-service recruiter with the Eastern Recruiting Squadron, has joined the Hurlburt team to assist Airmen wanting to continue their service in the Air Force Reserve.

“I’m excited to learn about Air Force Special Operations Command’s community, its mission and being able to place and assist the fully-qualified members who are separating from active duty and allow them to continue their service in a different capacity,” Jackson said.

By adding the additional recruiter and making it a two-man shop, it will ensure better customer service.

With one recruiter, the number of Airmen looking to cross over can get overwhelming. Having a second recruiter reduces the workload amount and allows more time to contact and work with Airmen.

Six months from their separation date, Airmen are usually contacted by an in-service recruiter to start the process of transitioning to the AFR.

“With both of us being here, we have expanded the six-month outreach to a 12-month outreach, so we are now reaching potential Airmen separating a year out,” Jackson said. “That gives them time to discuss their wants and needs, along with our needs in the Reserve to place them.”

Other than informing active-duty Airmen what their options are in the AFR, an in-service recruiter’s mission is to help Airmen determine their eligibility by ensuring they are physically fit, medically qualified and give Airmen an opportunity to cross-train into a new career field.

“A lot of times Airmen come in and they have no idea what they want to do or what they want out of the military. If you take the time to talk to them a little bit, just to find out what they want and are looking for, all of a sudden a little light turns and they say, ‘Oh, I didn’t realize I had that option,’” said Master Sgt. John Fusco, an in-service recruiter with the Eastern Recruiting Squadron. “That’s really our job -- to inform them and make sure they know what they are entitled to and what is out there for them.”

"The easiest way for an Airman to contact an in-service recruiter is by telephone or email," Fusco said. “We are here and we are available -- don’t be afraid to contact us.”
