BAGRAM AIR FIELD, Afghanistan — A Bagram-based Soldier received a milestone 'care package' from Adopt-A-Chaplain, a San Jose, Calif.-based group who has been sending care packages to deployed service members since January 2005.
Army Col. Jonathan Ives, Base Operations commander, was chosen by Maj. Darin Olson to receive Adopt-A-Chaplain's 15,000th box sent overseas.
"Commanders are Soldiers too," said Olson. "They are sometimes overlooked when it comes to things like this."
Adopt-A-Chaplain began more than three years ago, when a member began corresponding with a deployed chaplain. He mentioned this to his spiritual group, and word spread and eventually gained nationwide attention.
According to their Website, the organization's goals are to provide prayer and spiritual support for the chaplains themselves and to provide tangible support that will enable chaplains to more effectively minister to the servicemembers they serve.
