Soldiers of 6th Squadron, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division guided cadets of Southeast Bulloch High School’s Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps on a tour of Fort Stewart, Georgia, April 21.
The tour was designed to provide cadets a better understanding of Army life pertaining to equipping, training and manning.
Cadets started the day by visiting Fort Stewart’s Warriors Walk, a living monument dedicated to Soldiers of 3rd Infantry Division and attached units who paid the ultimate price during Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.
Soldiers from the squadron then showed cadets an up-close view of military vehicles. Subject matter experts explained the function, usage and capabilities of different weapon systems.
The cadets ate lunch with cavalry scouts at 2nd Brigade’s Spartan dining facility where Soldiers shared basic training stories and answered questions about joining the Army, retiring and deploying.
The final stop on the tour was the Virtual Training Facility, where cadets learned how to operate an M4 carbine using the Engagement Skills Trainer.
Events like the JROTC tour allows Soldiers and units of 3rd Infantry Division to continuously build and strengthen relationships with the communities surrounding Fort Stewart.
