Two F-22 Raptors from the 95th Fighter Squadron, Tyndall Air Force Base landed at Šiauliai Air Base, Lithuania today, accompanied by a KC-135 Stratotanker, from the 100th ARW, RAF Mildenhall. The Aircraft and crew were welcomed by the Lithuanian President, Dalia Grybauskaitė who commented that with the arrival of these aircraft, the United States is actively honoring its commitments and demonstrating its ability to protect the region.
Lt. Col Daniel Lehowski, Commander of the 95th Fighter Squadron, says that the abilities his aircraft brings to the fight are valuable to reinforcing NATO posture.
“The F-22 brings truly revolutionary capabilities to the battlefield. It’s stealth, it’s super cruise, the avionics that provide the pilot with unprecedented information, truly give it an unfair advantage in the combat environment. And it’s important to show our NATO allies that we can bring that capability to Lithuania.”
F-22 Pilot, Captain Andrew Grey says that today’s mission is a good example of the ability the U.S. Air Force has to project Air Power around the globe.
“Part of the mantra here, in the U.S. Air Forces in Europe is to be forward, ready and now. And right now, as you can see, we’re able to bring this capability all the way over from in the states to a forward operating base location. And from that base, we’re able to go farther, to other places and operate as required whenever needed or called upon.”
These Aircraft are currently part of the largest F-22 deployment to Europe, and is partially funded by the European Reassurance Initiative.
